After six rounds of outstanding racing the 2015 British Cycling Elite Road Series visits Abergavenny on Sunday for the penultimate round, the Grand Prix of Wales.
Abergavenny was host to a superb 2014 British Cycling National Road Championships but could crown the overall Elite Road Series winner with Team Raleigh GAC’s Steve Lampier on the periphery of glory.
With the Grand Prix Series honours and overall team standings to compete for too there is plenty to race for.
Form guide
Ian Bibby is undoubtedly a man in form having won the Ryedale Grand Prix last month before being crowned British Cycling circuit race champion in Barnsley.
The NFTO rider sits in second behind Steve Lampier in the overall standings and although catching the Raleigh rider is unlikely, Bibby can cement second place and gain important points in the team standings.
NFTO sit in third on 54 points, just four adrift of joint leaders Raleigh GAC and One Pro Cycling on 58 points.
Lampier has a trusted line-up to support him in the Raleigh ranks while aiming to complete an individual and team double.
One Pro Cycling look set to be without Chris Opie, who delivered the team’s one win the series at the Stockton Grand Prix. But team glory is in sight and would cap off an incredible first season for Matt Prior’s outfit.
Team Wiggins are set to be without Andy Tennant, winner of the Cycle Wiltshire Grand Prix, but can call on the likes of Chris Lawless who has had a strong campaign.
JLT Condor will continue to search for a win in the series with the experienced Kristian House and Graham Briggs in their ranks while Madison Genesis include Erick Rowsell, who rode superbly at RideLondon to win the mountains classification.
The course
The 113-mile race will visit Monmouth twice on a large circuit of North Monmouthshire before returning to Abergavenny to complete ten circuits of the town centre.
