Joseph Cosgrove was crowned the junior men’s champion at the Isle of Man Youth and Junior Tour, while Abigail Miller and Rory Gravelle took the Youth A victories in a jampacked weekend of racing.

The prologue saw all the riders compete against the clock over the 1.2km course along the promenade in Douglas, before tackling the 8km Ellerslie Circuit for stage two, which included a 6% average climb. On the Sunday, the Youth A and B riders took to Jurby Motor Circuit to round off their weekend, while the junior men completed the circuit before fighting up the Tholt-Y-Will for a summit finish.

Junior men

Joseph Cosgrove (Anexo Group Race Team) finished first in the general classification to win the second round of the Junior Men’s National Road Series after securing the third stage win ahead of Luke Brennan (BCC Race Team) and Joseph O’Brien (Zappi Junior Race Team).

Finlay Tarling (Willebrord Wil Vooruit) finished one second ahead of Harry Codd (Wales Racing Academy) to secure the prologue win. Maxwell Hereward (360cycling) took a solo victory on the second stage circuit, finishing 36 seconds ahead of Tofauti Everyone Active’s Denholm Edwards, who won the bunch sprint to take second.

The final stage saw Cosgrove take the win in a dramatic sprint finish up the Tholt-Y-Will climb, with Brennan taking second and O’Brien in third to match the final general classification.

Hereward secured the overall win in the points competition on 21 points and BCC Race Team were crowned victorious in the team’s competition.

The third round of the Junior Men’s National Road Series will see riders tackle the Cadence Road Race on Sunday 14 May in Wales.

Youth A Girls

Abigail Miller (Clifton CC) secured the Youth A Girls’ overall victory in the fourth round of the Youth Circuit Series after a dominant performance, winning two out of three stages.

Miller won the opening prologue in 1:50, two seconds ahead of Ella Tandy (Solihull CC), before also taking the win on the second stage circuit. Miller won the sprint to finish ahead of Phoebe Taylor (ESV Manchester) and Ellie Mitchinson (Welwyn Wheelers CC).

The third stage saw a very tight sprint finish, with Megan Lloyd (Harry Middleton CC) pinching the win over Rebecca Gardiner (Lee Valley Youth CC), but Miller’s eighth place finish was enough to take the general classification win.

Taylor finished in second overall, while Mitchinson rounded off the podium in third. Tandy won the points competition and Maindy Flyers Composite were victorious in the team’s competition.

Youth A Boys

Rory Gravelle (Velo Myrddin CC powered by Y Beic) took the Youth A Boys’ general classification after a consistent performance across the weekend.

The opening prologue saw Henry Hobbs (Cystic Fibrosis Race Composite) take the win just one second ahead of Gravelle, before Gravelle came back to take the lead on stage two with Hobbs in second. Luca Bednarek (Kirklees Cycling Academy Composite) was able to power to the stage three win in a sprint finish, with Gravelle finishing in second and Bednarek’s teammate, Cillian Lewis, taking third place.

Bednarek finished second overall, while Hobbs took third on the general classification and also won the points competition. Cystic Fibrosis Race Composite claimed the team win.

Youth B Girls

In the Youth B Girls’ category, Melanie Rowe (ZORM Composite) was crowned the overall winner ahead of teammate Rose Lewis and Abi Clayton (Team RL360 Isle of Man).

Clifton Cycling Club’s Katie Robertson won the first stage of the weekend, while Rowe and Lewis finished two seconds behind. Stage two’s circuit race saw Rowe take a solo victory 16 seconds ahead of Lewis, and 21 seconds ahead of Clayton in third. Robertson took her second win in a sprint finish in the third stage, but was only enough to place her fourth overall, while Rowe’s fifth place secured her the overall win.

Rowe won the points competition as well as the general classification, while her team ZORM Composite, secured the victory in the teams’ competition.

Youth B Boys

Finlay Storrie (Maindy Flyers CC) was the Youth B Boys’ winner after a perfect weekend where he won all three stages.

Storrie led from the beginning with a win in the time-trial, while Deian Roberts (Rhyl CC) clocked one second slower to come in second, and Steffan King (Maindy Flyers CC) in third. The second stage saw Storrie win again, eight seconds ahead of King, before tackling the third stage head on with another victory for Storrie in a sprint finish.

King and Freddie Winkley (ESV Manchester) took second and third on the general classification, respectively, while William Coles (Evolution Racing Academy) won the points competition and ESV Manchester won the teams competition.

The fifth round of the Youth Circuit Series will see the riders take on the circuit at Loughborough University for the Loughborough Cycling Festival.
